Made to Order: Why We Produce Every Piece on Demand

Fabrication à la demande : pourquoi on produit chaque pièce sur commande

At Nord Country Co., no piece is produced before it's ordered — that's the principle behind made-to-order production. Here's what that means in practice, why we chose this model, and what to expect as a customer.

What made-to-order actually means

Rather than manufacturing large quantities ahead of time and storing them in a warehouse, each order triggers production of the specific piece you chose — the right color, the right size, the right design. Nothing is made "just in case."

Why we chose this model over traditional stock

The traditional model forces you to guess in advance how many pieces to make in each size and color — and to deal with unsold surplus that often ends up discarded. Made-to-order eliminates that waste at the source: we produce exactly what's sold, no more, no less.

This choice also lets us put more care into each individual piece rather than managing mass inventory — and offer a wider catalog without having to fund and warehouse stock for every variant.

What that means for you at checkout

The most concrete difference: your order takes a bit longer than an item that's already in stock, since production only begins after your purchase. In exchange, you get a piece made specifically for you, not one that's been sitting in a warehouse for months.

It also means a product that's sold out in a specific size rarely stays that way for long — as soon as production can resume for that variant, it becomes available again, without waiting for a large restock.

How we keep the wait as short as possible

Production starts as soon as the order is placed — there's no queue behind a larger production batch. Each order follows its own path through manufacturing and shipping, which keeps timelines as short as made-to-order production allows.

Still covered by our return policy

Made to order doesn't mean non-returnable: just like any purchase with us, you have 30 days to change your mind if the size or piece doesn't work out. Check our return policy for details.

Frequently asked questions

Does made-to-order cost more than an in-stock garment?

No — the price reflects the quality of the product, not the production method. It's the timeline that differs, not the cost.

Why are some sizes or colors occasionally marked as sold out?

This can happen temporarily depending on base fabric availability at our production partner — the variant typically becomes available again once the raw material restock is complete.

Can I still return a made-to-order item?

Yes, our 30-day return policy applies the same way to all our pieces, whether made to order or not.

Does this mean every piece is personalized with my name?

No — made-to-order refers to producing the item as shown on the site (color, size, design), not individual personalization. For personalized pieces, check out our Customization page instead.

Is this model really more sustainable?

It directly reduces waste linked to overproduction and unsold inventory, making it a more responsible approach than speculative mass production — without claiming to be a perfect solution on its own.
